Masquerade : Paper Faces On Parade !

People often ask me what I think about Lady GaGa. Indeed, the style of the 23-year-old popstar causes big debates : is she a new icon or is she a fake ?
She is said to be a modern Madonna.
What does she look like most ? A respectable fashion queen or a ridiculous draq-queen ?

For my part, I think her first steps in fashion have been somewhat hesitant and unsure.
She has taken time to find her so unique style.

As a reminder only a few months ago Lady GaGa still looked like a porn actress...

December 2008 (Y100's Jingle Ball, Florida)

Her skin was far too tanned. She was another sexy Britney bitch.

Yet, the origami dress she is wearing above was inspired by Thierry Mugler one :

Her outfits were pretty rough, tasteless, not really interesting yet in a fashion point of view.

She looked complexed.

The clothes were nice but badly coordinated, too much black.

On the left, she is wearing Bruno Pieters S/S 2009 jacket, JC Jitrois belt, KTZ F/W 09-10 boots
On the right, the round sunglasses, the hair bow and the black latex jumpsuit are nice but there is 'something' lacking, isn't it ?

However, she has made progress. The girl is passionate about fashion...

Shoes from Galliano S/S 2010

She has more self-confidence so she can take more risks.

I think she is really refreshing; she doesn't look like anyone else in the music industry.
I'm on the lookout for each of her new outfits ! She changes all the time.

A small anthology of the most amazing looks from Lady GaGa...

For the new oracle of fashion, mardi gras is every day !

£

There is so much variety from each look...

Her personal and excentric style became her trademark...

Yeah really I love people who look crazy and who dare be different.

wearing a silk orb-like Armani Privé dress

This yellow wig is amazing ! She looks more and more beautiful.

At The Grammys, Lady GaGa was dressed by Armani Privé

"I am honored to be wearing Armani this evening," she said. "The series of pieces Mr. Armani created for me are truly iconic; they represent not only beautiful fashion, but my spirit and essence as an artist. Mr. Armani is a fashion legend, and tonight would not have been the same without his touch, and his wonderful team."

Lady GaGa latest surrealistic outfit

She is amazing ! You can't recognize her !

This look reminds me Gareth Pugh ones, the futuristic young designer...

It's not really surprising because Lady GaGa loves Gareth Pugh's creations.

For her, fashion is the better way to have fun and to embody different characters. She takes pleasure in founding more and more surprising and weird outfits.
She is such an inspiration for me.

In her clip "Bad Romance", Lady GaGa is wearing sunglasses made of razor blades by "Haus of Gaga" (read below)
The gold embroidered dress is from S/S 2010 Alexander McQueen :

She inspires many great fashion designers like Marc Jacobs, Jean-Claude Jitrois, Giorgio Armani etc
She has become a fashion muse, better a Goddess.

Marc Jacobs loves Lady GaGa.

I bought this magazine at Colette for €10 some months ago but I lost it somewhere !
I'm bummed, I did not even have time to read it... :(
If you find it, send it back to me please !

Lady Gaga loves clothing from fashion designers but she has her own creative production team (handled by herself) : the "Haus of GaGa", this is some of its creations :

She worn this red latex victorian inspirated dress when she met Queen Elizabeth II

Lady GaGa leaving the Mayfair Hotel in London, December 11, 2009

Even if her singing career does not last I think her influence on fashion will be here for many years. Lady Gaga popularized the idea that fashion must not be taken as serious and that you can wear all the improbable clothes you see on the catwalk...

11 shirt - Paul Smith modifications pt2

After spending some time removing the breast pocket and the sleeve straps, I am now ready to start doing some sewing and sort out the cuffs.

Luckily the first image of Matt in costume (see left) was of very high resolution and it’s possible to see a lot of detail around the cuff (see below).

The fabric I have harvested from deconstructing the sleeve straps, although fairly substantial (see below, left), is not in a single piece long enough to run the circumference of the cuff, falling short by some four inches. I will therefore need to splice the fabric down the centre (see below, centre) and create a longer strip (see below, right).

Because of the depth of the strip, I firstly need to remove one of the cuff buttons as I need to sew real close to where it sits. I will put it back later.

I then attach the strip to the inside of the cuff, with the strip face up (see right). I only sew along the long edge of the cuff, as close to the edge as I can.

The strip then gets flapped around to the outside, binding the edge.

I then fold and press the ends to line up with the ends of the cuff (see left) and similarly fold and press what will form the bottom edge of the stripes.

It is then a fairly simple task to top-stitch the stripes down onto the outside of the cuff (see right).
This picture also shows the remaining button on the cuff, the temporally removed button belongs on the bottom edge of the stripes.

My only problem was avoiding the buttonhole on the other end of the cuff (see left). I don’t want to cover it over, as setting a new one over the top would not be a good idea. I suspect the BBC Costume Department also avoided this in a similar way.

And that is my cuffs sorted (see below).

Next will be the dreaded button-stand . . . .
